Kindernotes August 29,2007

Our theme this week has been Ladybugs. During centers, the children created Ladybugs, made books about Ladybugs, and played a counting game with the spots on Ladybugs.

Theme

Roly Poly Penguins are dancing in the hallway.  Also, you will find penguin facts inside our penguin books.  Working with numbers to 20, students fed penguins with goldfish crackers.  Each child completed graphs based on the number of penguins rolled.  We also made a new Traveling Book, The Principal’s Colorful Clothes, based on the book, The Principal’s New Clothes read to us by Mr. Hodapp.

Religion

This week we celebrated God’s love with prayers and song.  We discussed the many ways we celebrate with our families on special occasions.  The children learned different ways to celebrate God’s love and that they should celebrate this love each day.

Phonics

Pig is the keyword for our new letter Pp.  We have been working hard as identifying the 6 letters and sounds that have been introduced.  The children are reciting the alphabet, identifying initial sounds, and learning to blend words from the sounds already introduced.

Math

Our work with patterns continued this week as the children used linking cubes and then teddy bear counters to create AB patterns.  We also used the teddy bears to practice acting out story problems and count the number of bears in a given set.

Star of the Week

Brianna was our newest “Star”.  She filled her poster with family pictures ~ she has two sisters and a brother.  Brianna loves animals.  Perhaps it is because she lives on a farm with 4 cows, 1 pig, 1 rabbit and 1 dog.  Brianna and her family love to have parties.

Values Education

Responsibility is the value for October.  During our lesson, we discussed rules and the need for them.  We also talked about being a good helper.  Please encourage your child to be responsible for his/her own things when coming to school – homework, library books, lunch, etc.
